ought to的用法

“ought to” 是一种情态动词,用于表示应该应当可能会预料会

  • You ought to take care of him.”(你应该照顾他)。
  • You ought to scrap the old bike and buy a new one.(你应该扔掉这辆旧自行车,买一辆新的。)

表示推测:注意与 “must” 表示推测时的区别。例如:

  • He must be at home by now.”(断定他已到家)和 “He ought to be home by now.”(不十分肯定)。
  • There´s a fine sunset; it ought to be a fine day tomorrow.(今天有晚霞,明天应该是个好天。)

  • You ought to have asked him (but you didn’t).”(你本应该问他的)。
  • You ought to have studied last night, but you chose to watch TV shows instead.(你昨天晚上应该学习,但你选择看电视节目。)

在美国英语中,否定句和疑问句中的 “ought to” 可以省略 “to”。例如:Ought you smoke so much?” 和 “You oughtn’t smoke so much.”。

请注意,“ought to” 的语气略强于 “should”,而 “ought to” 在美国英语中用得很少,而 “should” 则相当常用。
